Hi, guys!

A wonderful politics person I know wants to wrap their head around desentralized social media and the fediverse and is wondering about content (Like articles and stuff) in English to read about it.

Do you guys have any recommendations?

@Gargron surely must know some good stuff

This will surely help out a lot! 😁

@ChrisTalleras @aral @cwebber @darius are a few people that have content about activitypub and federated networks. Maybe they can provide some links with their works. :)

There is the EU talk of Aral Balkan, @aral (video.lqdn.fr/videos/watch/861) and the first (?) academic publication by folks from Kings College London (dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=335). Then there are introductory videos on the fediverse, like youtu.be/S57uhCQBEk0 Then there are introductory threads on Mastodon, such as this one from James Wilson mstdn.social/@jamewils/1031364.

I'd say, join and see :-)

That paper is cool. Instance operators, activists and Fediverse developers should read it.

We've certainly seen centralisation pressure in e-mail, and what it leads to (Gmail). I'd hope that newer decentralized things like Mastodon can avoid such a fate when (fingers crossed) they take over.
